The Kansas City Chiefs know who they’ll face in the next round of the 2023 NFL playoffs. After Buffalo defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers at Highmark Stadium, the result will be another postseason edition of Patrick Mahomes versus Josh Allen.

The Chiefs and Bills will officially square off in the Divisional round of the AFC postseason tournament. Kansas City will travel to Buffalo on Sunday, January 21 at 5:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on CBS.

This weekend will be the first time Mahomes will travel for a playoff game. Until now, the Chiefs have played all their postseason games in the Mahomes era at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The last time the Chiefs played a road playoff game was the 2015 Divisional round against New England – Kansas City lost that game 27-20.

Sunday will be a rematch from when these two teams faced one another in the regular season on December 10 in Week 14. Kansas City lost that game 20-17 after Kadiarus Toney’s late touchdown was erased by an offensive off-sides penalty, causing a complete meltdown on the team’s sideline.

Kansas City will have a chance at redemption for a regular season loss many felt they should’ve won. The last time the Chiefs traveled to Orchard Park to play the Bills was during the 2020 campaign when Mahomes passed for 226 yards and two touchdowns to lead Kansas City to defeat the Bills 26-17.

Saturday will be the 55th all-time meeting between these two franchises and the 5th postseason matchup. In the regular season, Mahomes is 1-3 against Allen’s Bills. However, he’s 2-0 against him in the playoffs. The rivalry between these two AFC foes has been an entertaining one in recent memory, setting the stage for another epic battle next weekend.

The winner of this game will take on either the Baltimore Ravens or Houston Texans in the AFC Championship.
