During his six years as a starter for the Kansas City Chiefs, Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has proven that he is a lot of things, but the underdog isn’t one of them. At least from his perspective.

The Chiefs have proven that they should never be taken lightly during their postseason run following road wins over the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens after they were favored to lose leading up to both matchups.

Against all odds and despite the down year the Chiefs were having during the regular season, Kansas City remains the reigning AFC champs and in another Super Bowl, where they open up as a 2-point underdog to the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers.

Mahomes has always entered every game with confidence and poised to overcome any obstacle. The veteran QB knows too well about the struggles his team has fought through to earn the opportunity to play for another Lombardi. On Monday, he shared his thoughts on being the underdog for the third consecutive week.

“I think you approach it like any other game; I never feel like the underdog,” Mahomes told reporters during his Super Bowl opening night press conference. “I always feel like we have a chance to win the football game, and that’s how we approach every single game. We were underdogs in the last Super Bowl, so all you can do is just have that same mindset of just going out there, playing your best football, and hoping that you end up with a win.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs faced a lot of doubters before the Super Bowl last year when his team defeated the Philadelphia Eagles. This year, Kansas City proved the doubters wrong by returning to the big game with a chance of becoming the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the 2004 New England Patriots.
