Eric Bieniemy’s future in Kansas City currently “uncertain”

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy played a pivotal role in the development and success of quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense. Since getting promoted to OC in 2018, the team has hosted four AFC Championship games, appeared in two Super Bowls, and collected a Super Bowl win.

However, Bieniemy’s success has put him in the news for reasons beyond his control. The 58-year-old coach has interviewed for numerous head coaching vacancies, none of which translated into a legitimate job offer.

According to NFL Insider Adam Shefter, Bieniemy’s future is even murkier concerning his current position with the Chiefs.

EB’s one-year contract with the Chiefs is set to expire in 2022. League Sources say Head Coach Andy Reid and Bieniemy are expected to meet soon and discuss their future together and whether coaching together in Kansas City is still a good fit or not.

Reid recently lost his QBs coach Mike Kafka, departed to be the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Thus, making Bieniemy’s presence even more essential to the Chiefs in 2022.

But there’s no guarantee Bieniemy will return to the Chiefs’ coaching staff. More than likely, his upcoming meeting with Andy Reid will determine whether he says.

Bieniemy has been on Andy Reid’s coaching staff in Kansas City since 2013, starting as the club’s running backs coach and getting promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018.

Since his promotion, the Chiefs’ offense has finished no worse than 6th in the NFL and has coincided with Patrick Mahomes’ early success as the team’s quarterback over the last four seasons.

Following the 2021 season, Bieniemy interviewed for the Broncos, Texans, and Saints head coaching positions.
