Andy Reid’s coaching staff took another hit on Thursday morning as another one of his assistant coaches moved up the coaching ladder with another NFL franchise.

Former defensive backs coach Sam Madison is returning to where his legendary career began in 1997 with the Miami Dolphins. Madison will be joining first-year head coach Mike McDaniel’s coaching staff as the Dolphins’ cornerbacks/passing game specialist.

Madison played in Miami for nine seasons (1997-2005), making four Pro Bowls and getting named First-Team All-Pro twice. He finished his career following the 2008 season with 471 tackles, two sacks, ten forced fumbles, 38 interceptions, and three touchdowns.

Madison joined Reid’s staff in Kansas City in 2019 and helped develop starting corners Charvarious Ward and L’Jarius Sneed during his time with the Chiefs.

He is the third coach to depart from the Chiefs’coaching staff since the season ended almost a month ago, joining Mike Kafka (now offensive coordinator with New York Giants) and Matt House (now the defensive coordinator for Louisiana State University).

Reid has yet to fill the spot at quarterbacks coach, left by Kafka, and now has shoes to fill at defensive backs coach.
