The 2023 NFL trade deadline has expired, and aside from sending a late-round draft pick to the Jets to bringing back Mecole Hardman, Kansas City remains committed to their current group at wide receiver when many felt the team should’ve made some calls about acquiring another veteran at the position.

The lack of explosion, consistency, and a large number of dropped passes is a sight fans have grown tired of at the halfway point of the regular season and were hoping the team would address the issue via trade. That did not happen. Instead, Kansas City remains stubborn that their current group will eventually find their stride, and the offense will get back to normal ahead of the postseason.

Head Coach Andy Reid continues to defend his WR room and addressed the most recent miscues in the Chiefs’ 24-9 loss last week during his press conference on Wednesday.

“So listen, I mean, we’re gonna be okay there; we keep getting better all the way along. It’s not just a wide receiver thing. It’s all of us,” said Reid. “So a week ago, we were saying how good they did, so we just keep the consistency going on the offensive side is what we need to do all the way around. Not just wide receivers.”

To Reid’s point, the wide receivers did look good in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers, but that was against a pass defense that’s on pace to be the worst in NFL history. Kansas City still leads the NFL in dropped passes, and they looked completely out of sync last week in Denver.

Kansas City will need a far better effort from their receivers to combat one of the best offenses in the league when they travel to Frankfurt, Germany, to face the Miami Dolphins.
