Thursday Injury Report: Signs point towards Tyrann Mathieu returning for AFC Championship

Kansas City lost one of their best defensive players during the AFC Divisional last week as safety Tyrann Mathieu went to the locker room with a concussion and did not return for the remainder of the game. He left after the first seven plays in the first quarter.

For the rest of the game, it was noticeable the Chiefs’ defense was struggling to keep Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense from moving down the field. Luckily, Kansas City was able to stay it thanks to Patrick Mahomes and company, on their way to a thrilling 42-36 victory to keep their postseason alive.

On Thursday, Head Coach Andy Reid said Mathieu is still in concussion protocol but was a full participant in practice, according to the team’s official injury report, for the first time since being concussed.

“Tyrann practiced [Thursday] and did a nice job; he’s not out of the protocol,” said Reid. “He’s got to test after the practice, that was the next step, but he was out there doing everything and did a nice job with it… He moved around well. He was fine [Thursday], so he’s just got to go through the rest of the protocol here and finish that up and make sure he’s OK as he goes through it.”

While there are steps Mathieu has to go through to clear concussion protocols, signs are pointing towards the Honey Badger returning to the team in time for the AFC Championship. Especially with the way these tweets look and sound:

The rest of Kansas City’s injury report is shown below. Aside from running back Darrel Williams, who was limited with a bad toe, everyone was a full participant.
