All eyes are on Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce after he sustained an ankle injury against the Vikings last weekend. The veteran all-pro went into the locker room right before halftime but returned for the second half, finishing with ten catches for 67 yards and a touchdown.

As the Chiefs prepare for their Week 6 matchup against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, Kelce returned to the practice field after not participating on Monday due to a reported low ankle sprain. Kelce is one of three key players – along with linebacker Nick Bolton and defensive end George Karlaftis – who practiced in a limited capacity.

Kelce’s playing status is currently up in the air, but head coach Andy Reid remains optimistic.

“I’m going to just see,” said Reid. “I’m going to just see how he moves around, how he feels. He’s always been honest with me on things like that. We’ll see how he does, but he’s doing OK out there today, so we’ll see where it goes from here.”

The likelihood of Kelce playing in Week 6 would be greater if the Chiefs were playing on a Sunday, but dealing with this circumstance on a short week makes things more challenging. If Kelce is good to go by Thursday evening, it’ll be huge for Kansas City’s offense. The Chiefs already saw how difficult it is moving the ball on offense when their star tight end isn’t on the field in their Week 1 loss to the Lions, and they don’t want to be in the same situation again.

Another player the Chiefs hope to have back is Nick Bolton, who’s missed three straight games with an ankle injury.
