Fantasy Preview: Which Chiefs players will have a big day vs. Jags?

The Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) take on the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0) on Sunday as the Jags look to build off of their season-opening win over the Indianapolis Colts. At the same time, Kansas City has its sights on picking the first win of its campaign.

Both teams have plenty of playmakers, making this one of the more exciting matchups in Week 2. For fantasy players, this could be a game that might give them an edge in their league. Here are three Chiefs players that should be your fantasy lineup.

Patrick Mahomes

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is coming off a disappointing loss to the Detroit Lions due to multiple dropped balls by his receiving core. Of course, this kind of night had to occur when tight end – and Mahomes’ security blanket – Travis Kelce was sidelined with a bone bruise caused by hyper-extending his knee during practice 48 hours before the game.

So, why should Mahomes be in your lineup?

Because the reigning Super Bowl champ typically plays a lot better after a loss. In fact, Mahomes has lost back-to-back games only three times in his career. Secondly, Mahomes has had lights out against the Jacksonville secondary, which ranks 22nd in the NFL after Week 1.

Mahomes played the Jaguars twice in 2023, once in the regular season and a second time in the Divisional round of the AFC Playoffs. In Week 10 last season, the time-time All-Pro went off for 331 yards, four touchdowns, and one pick on 26 of 35 passes.

The weather played a factor in the playoffs, but Mahomes still went 22 of 30 for 195 yards and two scores. Coming off a bad loss with plenty to prove going into this weekend, Mahomes might be a guy players might want to have in the lineups.

Travis Kelce

Although he may still be banged up due to coming back from injury, Travis Kelce could be in the Chiefs lineup this week after missing the season opener on banner night. If he is, expect Mahomes to look his way often, as usual. Kelce is always productive for Kansas City, no matter who they play. But one of the All-Pro’s best performances was against the Jaguars. In the postseason last year, Kelce caught 14 passes for 98 yards and caught two touchdowns.

If the Chiefs’ receiving core repeats the same struggles that appeared last Thursday, Kelce will be the go-to guy and might finish with inflated stats similar to that playoff game a year ago.

Kadarius Toney

Kadarius Toney was on the wrong side of social media after dropping two crucial passes that might’ve changed the Chiefs’ fortunes if only he could’ve held onto the ball. Toney might be the last guy players will want in their lineup, so he’s my sleeper for Week 2. The second-year receiver was put in a tough spot last week after missing most of training camp and preseason and only having three days of practice before the season’s first game. This week, Toney’s had a week to correct some things and should be poised to bounce back from his pitiful performance from Week 1
