After losing defensive end Janarius Robinson for the season with a foot fracture, the Kansas City Chiefs announced they’ve signed a new defensive lineman to the preseason roster. On Monday, official Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen reports the club signed Olathe East alum and Kansas State standout Nate Matlack to the d-line unit.
Matlack went undrafted after spending the last four seasons in the college ranks, playing three with K-State and one with Pittsburgh. He finished his college career with 25 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, six passes defensed, and three forced fumbles.
The NFL hopeful left the 2025 NFL Draft undrafted and hadn’t signed with an NFL team until the Chiefs called him to St. Joe to wrap up training camp. While it’ll be an uphill battle to get up to speed, Matlack will have a brief opportunity to crack the Chiefs’ 53-man roster or make it onto their practice squad. If he’s lucky, one training camp practice and two preseason games might be all he needs to prove to the coaching staff he’s worth keeping around.
